Ganesha is the Remover of Obstacles in Hinduism. He holds a noose which represents how we are bound to worldly desires, but he also holds an axe, which he uses to cut those bonds of attachment. There are many stories about how Ganesha came to have an elephant’s head but in general it is meant to represent his great wisdom and strength.
